Follow these simple steps to get more exercise
Walking is a simple way to manage weight and maintain good health. Why not take advantage of the nicer weather to get outside and begin, or resume, a walking program?
Take these simple steps
Every step counts! Here are some ways to add more steps to your daily routine.
-
Use a trip to the mall as a walking workout by parking at the opposite end to the store you are visiting. Add an extra “lap” if you have time.
-
If your workplace is too far to walk the entire distance, park the car further away or get off the bus or subway a stop or two early.
-
Run errands on foot instead of taking the car.
-
If you pick your kids or grandkids up from school, walk there and enjoy a chat on the way home. Or, go for a family walk after dinner – for some great quality time and a bit of exercise.
-
If you work in an office, walk over to a colleague instead of phoning or emailing.
-
Go for a stroll with a friend instead of a movie or dinner.
-
If you’ve been inactive for a while, start by walking the block around your home three or four times the first week. The next week, widen the circumference to two blocks, then three and so on.
-
Join a walking club for extra motivation and to expand your social network.
